For some, ChatGPT is a revelation. For others, it’s a threat. Due to a myriad of security risks, from its ability to create functional code to its ability to impersonate the tone of another person’s writing style, many have deemed ChatGPT and its AI language model GPT-4 to be a blossoming problem. As rumors began to swirl that GPT-5 was in the making, an open letter was created and sent around the tech industry, noting concerns about the safety of developing another version of GPT.
This open letter was criticized by experts and the CEO and co-founder of Open AI himself, Sam Altman, at an MIT event on April 13th.
As reported by The Verge, Altman dismissed the open letter and squashed rumors that GPT-5 was in the making. Ultimately, the slowing of progression for GPT on the end of OpenAI might seem like it’d make those who fear the growth of AI happy but there’s still security concerns to be had. OpenAI is still expanding upon the functionality of ChatGPT and others in the tech industry are looking to incorporate it into their products.
